Colour Coordination
Colour is a powerful tool which can create instant impact and atmosphere. Used wisely and it can provide you with the ideal space you have always longed for. Used unwisely and it may cause you to make a quick beeline for the nearest exit!
Here are 10 tips and facts to *consider* when using colour:
1) There are no 'bad colours', only bad combinations.
2) When choosing colour, consider which style you first wish to create ie cosy, formal, vintage,
modern, eclectic.
3) Remember, dark or bright colours tend to advance, thereby creating a more cosy, warm feel to a room.
4) Lighter or dimmer colours tend to recede thereby opening up a more spacious look and feel.
5) Use colour to highlight certain architectural features ie columns, beams and also to hide other unsightly sights such as tatty radiators, pipes and ducts - paint all in same colour including wall that structures are sitting against.
6) Most schemes work best with no more than two or three colours.
7) Always try and view your colour samples in the room for which they are intended.
8) The colour of light needs to be taken into consideration when planning a colour scheme
(Come to the next Colour Workshop in September to find out more - see newslettere for
details).
9) The colour wheel is made up of three primary colours known as red, yellow and blue. They
cannot be mixed from other colours and are the building blocks from which other colours are
made.
10) Colours that sit next to each other on the colour wheel are 'harmonious' colours and work
well in a room scheme to create calm and balance.
